When David Luiz arrived on deadline day from Chelsea, Arsenal thought they had signed an experienced Premier League centre-back who could some straight into the starting line-up to provide a bit of stability.Watch Arsenal Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below
Instead, his time at the Gunners has been characterised by what can only be described as typical Luiz moments – the mindless display at Anfield where he was arguably at fault for two of Mohamed Salah’s goals perfectly summing it all up. But against Everton on Saturday afternoon, the Brazilian produced one of his finest performances in an Arsenal shirt.
With new manager Mikel Arteta watching on from the stands, the 32-year-old delivered a commanding display to help the Gunners register a rare clean sheet away from home in the Premier League. As per Sofascore, he made eight clearances, two interceptions, two tackles and won five total duels. And after seeing the game, Arsenal fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the veteran centre-back.
Some Gunners fans suggested that the performance against Everton was one of Luiz’s best in an Arsenal shirt, with supporter in particular urging him to produce more of the same.
A few fans even insisted Luiz was their man-of-the-match for his performance, and claimed that it has set things up nicely for Arteta to come in and take over the reins from Freddie Ljungberg.
If Luiz can be as consistent in his displays as he showed against Everton, then the Gunners may well end up looking back at the summer as a piece of shrewd business. But if the Brazilian continues to make high-profile and erratic mistakes, then performances like the one at Goodison Park are essentially meaningless.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been told to cash in on this star by this former Premier League striker.
