Toni Martinez made his first start for West Ham United in Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round replay with Shrewsbury Town at the London Stadium.
The West Ham fans have been crying out for the Spaniard to be involved this season, and he came off the bench to feature against Shrewsbury earlier this month before being handed a start in the replay on home soil.
It would be fair to say that the forward did not have many chances to get his name on the scoresheet, but he ended the night with an assist – setting up Reece Burke for the only goal of what was a largely uneventful match.
Martinez’s attitude has made him a favourite with the West Ham fans, and it is worth noting that the 20-year-old, who is valued at £1.4m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has scored nine times in 13 Premier League 2 appearances for West Ham’s Under-23 team during the 2017-18 campaign.
It might not have happened for the striker in terms of goals on Tuesday night, but the West Ham fans were still delighted with his contribution at the London Stadium.
