Earps won the award last year after guiding England to the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup and starring for Manchester United in the WSL. Hodgkinson followed in Earps' footsteps to become the fourth woman in a row to win the prestigious BBC SPOTY award, with the England goalkeeper's team-mate Beth Mead triumphing in 2022 after the Lionesses' historic Euros victory and the 2021 prize seized by tennis star Emma Radacanu. While Earps may not have defended her title she has had another successful season and is currently challenging for the Premiere Ligue title with Paris Saint-Germain after joining the French club in the summer.

"Shirt swapping at half time, that bothers me!" Earps told the BBC at the red carpet event. Other big names asked about their sporting 'red flags' included Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan, who replied: "Half-and-half scarves. You can't turn up at a football match and be a supporter of one team and then walk around with the other team on your body!"
WHAT NEXT FOR EARPS?
Earps is currently enjoying a well-earned rest after the French league kicked off their winter break a few days ago. Their next fixture is a home match against Fleury on January 7, where the Lionesses keeper will be aiming to secure a crucial three points in the tight title race.
